Pollination StationsWe take pride in minimizing the stress put on our bees. One way we do this is by revolutionizing how they are transported. Most big bee businesses transport their bees in cramped trucks, driving all day and night so the bees are forced to stay in their hives and relieve themselves in their home. "This study suggests that bees experiencing transportation have trouble fully developing their food glands and this might affect their ability to nurse the next generation of workers" (Effects of Long Distance Transportation on Honey Bee Physiology). Our patent-pending transport trucks not only give our bees more room, but also contain temperature controlling mechanisms that maintain a comfortable environment during travel. This paired with the information acquired through our hive monitoring system will help us make sure our pollinators are healthy and well taken care of.

SustainabilityOur transportation is also more efficient, getting the bees to their location faster thanks to our many sanctuary locations. The bees will create significantly less waste in their hives which will maintain cleanliness and bee fitness.
Some greenhouses utilize bumble bee pollinators for a short amount of time, but these only last 7-12 weeks. Our hives are sustainable long-term and there is no limit to how many times you can rent from us. Our hive monitors assure you will be provided with our healthiest bees available, every time. |
All Year RoundThe activity of the bees at the different location will differ based on the average temperatures of the area. This coincides with the season and plant activity; if it is too cold for the plants it is too cold for the bees and the hives will enter a dormant state.
Current practice is to move the bees around when they start to become dormant so that they can work all year round. However, Rent-A-Hive owns enough bees to give them a break during the winters. If for some reason there is a shortage of bees in another area, or temperatures drop below what would be considered habitable, then the bees would be moved to sanctuaries residing farther south. Everyone Can RentOur primary target market consists of owners of large orchards, such as the almond orchards in California. However, we also send out hives to house/apartment owners who wish to pollinate their personal gardens. Our hives would also benefit those organizations containing community gardens such as churches or soup kitchens.
Renting is normally done by month, lasting up to 12 months (weather/hive permitting). Automatic Loading TechniquesOur transport vehicles are upgraded with special flat beds just for hauling bees. The hives slide on the rails and are ready to travel. The automated process takes out the human part of the interaction, creating a more calm transition for the bees. Along with the temperature features discussed above, there is also a menthol spray system in case of hive unrest. This fine mist has a calming affect that can be utilized when human interaction is unavoidable. This ensures the safety of not only our bees, but our workers as well.
